Main Session 1 - On the Verge: Movementum - Francis Chan

Francis Chan
Jesus says his burden is light so are our heavy burdens from God?
My spiritual gifts are for the common good.
We are on the verge of something, not because we are creating it, but because God is creating it.
Remember the first burden we had to reach people for Christ, then we started getting paid, and there were expectations, and expectations begin to mess with you.
Praying a prayer to ask Jesus into our hearts doesn’t make sense with Scripture. We’re either followers of Jesus or we’re not. Our churches are filled with people that don’t reflect the Spirit’s presence and activity in their lives.
India and China – casual Christianity doesn’t make sense here. If you are going to lose everything for what you believe, you are either all in knowing it will likely cost you everything and possibly your life, or you wouldn’t think of converting to Christianity.
Chinese Christians laughing hysterically at Francis’s description of the American church. People coming into these large sanctuaries for worship services about an hour long and if there is a better speaker, or better child care, or better programs at another church. They switch.
Chinese Christianity and Indian Christianity are more congruent with Scripture than our American version.
2 Timothy 4:1-8  - 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
KP Yohannan to Francis Chan – I believe the Lord will use you when you are willing to be lonely and willing to be misunderstood. Then say what you need to say, the sheep will hear you, the rest of the people will misunderstand, and you will be lonely.
Professional ministry thing screws us up and it takes an incredible walk with the Lord to be able to see through this fog.
Strategies and missional practices are important but movements happen on their own when life change and healing is witnessed.
